14 days to go....can you believe it?

As the year starts to wind down, more of our time has focused on finishing up some long term projects. Of course, there were the preparations for the Gan dinner, and getting those challah covers finished in time. We also added the final pages to our Torah scrolls and decorated them so that they could come home for Shavuot. Children worked hard on every aspect of the Torah, and were proud to share the scrolls with their buddies and read through their stories from start to finish.

In Language Arts we finished our All About Books and shared them with the first graders at a writing celebration. This week we'll start a final mini-unit of writing poetry. We've also finished composing our opera and are ready to move into rehearsal mode. Stay tuned for information about costumes and performance times (some time during the last week of school, and we'll have multiple performances in order to keep the audiences small...) And we're nearing the end of the lower case alphabet in handwriting. We're paying special attention to spelling our names with upper and lower case letters, and practicing spelling some of our high-frequency words with dictionary spelling.

In math we reviewed symmetry by playing a partner game with pattern blocks, and creating our own symmetrical designs. We also practiced addition and subtraction with dice games.

This week we'll be preparing for the annual "Gan trip to Israel." If anyone is available to help us next Monday morning (weather permitting) - Cilla, Karl and I can really use all the extra hands we can get for this big event.
