We had a very full day, as you might imagine. We began our day with a typical morning meeting - songs, learning to greet one another, morning message and daily routines. The biggest different is that we didn't start at 8:15 - but tomorrow we will! Please try to arrive in time for your child to settle in with his/her classmates.
We also had a tour of the school, outdoor recess and snack. Children received their kippot, which are worn on heads for prayer, blessings, and Torah study. These stay in the classroom in individual pockets and are not shared.
After recess, we worked on self-portraits in black fine line. These will be on display after children add color to the portraits tomorrow.
Most of the day involved learning about each other, and about how school "works." There are a lot of rules, routines and protocols to teach, and we try to make it this phase of the year as fun, but also as thoughtful, as possible.
Tomorrow will be our first full day. We'll have our first visit to the art room with Morah Kitty, our first reading buddies with the Sixth grade, and lots of other firsts. Speaking of firsts.....I notice that some children did not have rest materials or extra clothes in their cubbies - we begin rest time tomorrow and we will need rest bags. As for the extra clothes, well....who knows when they will be needed?

Today was the first day of the month of Elul, when it's a tradition to begin to sound the shofar every day. We ended our assembly with the shofar blasts, and will continue to end the school day this way until Rosh Hashanah. Here's a youtube video of the Elul shofar blasts. Enjoy!
