Welcome to the Gan blog. Over the course of the year, we'll be using this website as a place to tell you more about our classroom - where we've been and where we are going. We'll offer links for learning more about some of the topics we're studying, and links to photos of the class (which will be password protected for you and your chidren's privacy.) However, urgent news will always be communicated by email.
The teachers in the Gan are Morah Amy and Morah Nancy. Many other adults will also interact with your children. Morah Kitty will teach art, Moreh Dov (aka Russell) will teach music, and Moreh Aharon will teach gym. Morah Cilla will be visiting our classroom four times a week to teach Hebrew language. We will have other faculty members joining us to supervise recess at lunch. There are a lot of new faces to get used to, so during the first few weeks of school, either Morah Nancy or Morah Amy will accompany children to all specials, while children form relationships with our school family. You can read all of our bios and see our photos on the LGA website.
What should you expect on the first (half) day of school? The "shake-hands-with Bil" line is usually long and slow-moving on the first day, as our head of school personally greets all new and returning students. So, while we usually start meeting promptly at 8:15, on the first day of school, we expect to get a late start.
When you and your child arrive, there will be instructions on the bulletin board in the hall about where to put school supplies, rest bags, and extra clothes. Because of some severe food allergies in the Gan, we're asking that everyone who enters the classroom (even grownups!) washes hands with soap and water when entering the room. (If we're lucky, this will mean fewer germs passed around too!) We'll have two activities set up in the classroom for children to work on before meeting. During that time, you are welcome to stay with your child. A teacher will ring the "meeting bell" to give notice that meeting is about to start. This is the time to give a hug and a kiss and say goodbye!
Morah Amy will lead meeting, which always starts with singing and guitar music, and Morah Nancy will help children find their seats. Marla will help escort parents to the hallway at this time. While we love parent visitors, we wait until all children have really settled into the morning routine before inviting parents to join us at meeting or for other parts of the school day.
Please remember to pack a snack, but no lunch for the first day of school (vegetarian and nut-free.) If you've lost your school supply list, email Morah Amy for a new copy. We'll be going outside twice tomorrow. Please make sure your child has comfortable clothing and shoes, appropriate for the weather and outdoor play.
See you in the morning!
